It is with profound regret that my wife, Ronnie, and I, must tell everyone that there will be no 2014 R-Kansas City BBQ event. Because of job changes, we will be relocating to Texas sometime in March, and, well, there is no one else we would trust to take care of and look after our pitmasters, judges, volunteers and sponsors.

To the City of Arkansas City and manager Nick Hernandez – thank you for the use of all the city resources you put at our disposal. They were invaluable.

To our sponsors – during times when many smaller contests were closing due to lack of support, all of you stood by us, repeatedly, and helped make our event really special.

To our volunteers – We could never have pulled our event off without the care and support of all of the volunteers that gave up their time to help us out. You will be missed.

To the judges – Words cannot properly express our gratitude for you volunteering your time and coming to Arkansas City to be part of our event. Thank you for everything.

This brings us to our stars – the pitmasters. You gave your time, efforts, patience and some of the best BBQ anyone will ever have a chance to eat, and in doing so, you made sure our event was always a huge success. We feel very fortunate to have met and interacted with so many pitmasters that excelled not only in the way they cooked, but also as human beings. We would be hard pressed to find a finer group of people anywhere. We only hope that we will be fortunate enough,as well as honored, to continue the friendships we started years ago.

Once again, thank you all for your friendship, your expertise and for some really unforgetable experiences!!

David and Ronnie Dornhoffer
